A colloid mill is a type of advanced equipment used for reducing the particle size of a solid in suspension in a liquid. Moreover, it is also utilized for reducing the droplet size of a liquid suspended in the other liquid. To achieve this, high levels of hydraulic shear is applied to the process liquid. It helps in increasing the stability of suspensions and emulsions. The colloid mill is utilized in a wide range of applications like superfine grinding, emulsifying, homogenizing, mixing, dispersing, and extraction of ointments, liquids, and other highly viscous products in the industries like cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and suspensions & emulsion.
First, the product is fed into the hopper. It directs the products into the gap between the stator and the rotor. After that the product undergoes a high degree of shearing, rubbing, and cutting. This process takes place between two metal-toothed surfaces of stator and rotor. Then it is sent towards the discharge segment. The processed product keeps on leaving the colloid mill through a drain pipe. If required, it is possible to re-circulate it with the help of a three-way cock and re-circulating pipe assembly.
